ClearPoint Weather Launches Japanese Online Operations
Tokyo, December 17, 2007 -- ClearPoint, the world's most comprehensive and easy-to-use ultra-high
resolution weather information service, is launching Japanese language online operations for the marine,
shipping, leisure, resort and weather industries in Japan. The ClearPoint website is intended not only for the
Japanese living in Japan, but also as an easily accessible Internet weather source for Japanese expatriates living
across the globe as well as Japanese corporations, organizations and research groups engaged in international
activities.
ClearPoint is expanding its High Definition Weather offering to Asia-Pacific regions in 2008, including
to China online users. The Japanese version of the ClearPoint site can be accessed by clicking on the Japanese
flag on the home page of ClearPoint Weather at http://www.clearpointweather.com.
ClearPoint's combined software and weather service displays the most recent updated weather data on a
real-time basis to individual users, including five day forecasts based on GPS positioning or on the area
designated by users, anywhere on earth. The software has proved popular in marine markets in U.S. and Europe,
including the shipping, yacht racing, marina and sport fishing industries.
ClearPoint was launched in July 2007 at the America's Cup, held in Valencia, Spain. After downloading
ClearPoint Windows Operating System software over the Internet, downloads of requested data and updates
begin at preset intervals from five minutes up to 12 hours according to user preference.
The principal advantage of ClearPoint is its ability to deliver data within a relatively short timeframe
through narrowband connections such as Iridium satellite as well as broadband, Wi-Fi and Inmarsat satellite
systems. The service sources weather data from over 180 international sources using proprietary compression
technologies. Weather applications are available in areas with hitherto limited communications infrastructure
areas and remote areas such as the Pacific Ocean.
"ClearPoint was initially developed with a focus on the marine and aviation industries, but it is also being
developed into applications for resort, golf, leisure, and other outdoor sport activities," said James Hayashi,
General Manager, ClearPoint Asia-Pacific. "ClearPoint offers new, economical, and ubiquitous advantages to
users of existing free or paid weather services. The service provides detailed global wind data, with lightning
warnings for golf courses or at weather-sensitive resorts, weather service displays in hotel lobbies and
restaurants, academic institutions, fishing, marine sports, mountain climbing, hiking and terrestrial sports, as well
as commercial usage in marinas, commercial shipping, security organizations and agriculture," said Mr. Hayashi.
The ClearPoint software also downloads essential weather menus into the palm of users' hands via
cellphones or PDAs, wherever users are on the globe based on GPS positioning and mobile Internet access.
ClearPoint offers safety and security, and supports critical decision-making processes through one-stop weather
shopping. ClearPoint is actively collaborating with industrial partners in environments such as Hong Kong,
Macao and Qingdao, the site of the upcoming sailing championships in the Beijing Olympics.
ClearPoint service is available at $55 for 6 months (approximately 6000 JYen), and $95 per year
(approximately 10,000 JYen) for unlimited server access. It is also available at $9.95 per day for daily usage and
includes options for installment payments over the period of subscription. The ClearPoint Racing Edition offers
resolution as high as 1 nautical mile for winds. Sport Fishing and Premium Editions are also offered for specialist
uses.
ClearPoint can be downloaded by accessing the server via available Internet connections, using laptops,
tablets and other PC-related devices. Updates are delivered on a real time basis and displayed on a single, easy to
use screen. Whether the user is out in the open sea or on land, various means of transmission services, from
broadband Internet to satellite services such as Iridium and Inmarsat are available for ubiquitous access
ClearPoint weather services.
