Champion Racer In South Atlantic Rolex Cup Wins With ClearPoint Weather

Pepe Bettini’s “Don Quixote” Wins IRC Class B and 2nd Place Overall Using Predictive Weather System

BUENOS AIRES, January 14th, 2008 - The South Atlantic Rolex Cup, hosted by the four principal yacht clubs in the region (YC Argentino, YC Olivos, YC Punta del Este, YC Uruguay) started with a 170 nm race from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Punta del Este, Uruguay, a straight shot down the infamously treacherous Rio de La Plata.

The winner in the IRC CLASS B and 2nd overall was DON QUIXOTE, a 36 ft Frers racer/cruiser sailboat.  The skipper/ tactician, Pepe Bettini a World and National champion from Buenos Aires, Argentina, used the ClearPoint forecast from January 14th for their winning tactics and strategies.   Pepe said "the forecast was terrific and the major shifts predicted happened on the race course like magic-- incredible! From the start at 12 noon to early evening, we stayed in middle/right of course playing wind shifts leading our fleet to the right.  Then, late at night we went further left of the fleet to pick up the forecasted 30 degree left shift and gained more on the fleet. In fact, we were sailing with 45 footers early the next morning (15 hours into the race) we had gained so much."

"We are delighted to see that ClearPoint weather is helping captains of the caliber of Pepe Bettini win championship races.  Racing is the toughest environment for a weather service to work in.  The service needs to be accurate, real-time and deliver high quality weather data on-demand and in high resolution, anywhere in the world. We are pleased to see how well our forecasts are performing to help racers compete more effectively with real weather intelligence," said Stuart Johnstone, Chief Operating Officer, ClearPoint.
